Cleaning and Sanitizing

Cleaning and Sanitizing

  • Can classrooms be used back to back or do they require cleaning in between each class session?  IE class meeting: TR 9-10:50 class, TR11-12:50
    • No surface cleaning is mandatory, but supplies will be in each room if students want to sanitize their own surfaces before sitting. Based upon review of the District facility air handling systems, the average room air change rate is six air changes per hour, which translates to filtered air approximately every 10 minutes. With reduced capacity, this air change is more frequent. Additional time between classes is not necessary at this time.
  • Are these protocols planned for Spring as well as Fall, and can you please provide more detail on the required sanitation practices?
    • The recommendations and guidelines regarding sanitation have evolved based upon evidence-based study throughout the pandemic. The current evidence indicates the transfer from surfaces to personal infection is very limited and not the primary transfer of disease. Therefore, surface cleaning is being performed during off hours, and supplies are provided for voluntary individual use in all areas.
  • What is the optimal way of sanitizing computers and electronic equipment such as camera lens enlargers, etc. This is an extremely high priority for our photography labs.
    • Use of alcohol wipes is an effective method for sanitizing sensitive equipment based upon the short contact time and quick drying nature of the product. No cleaning product should be sprayed directly on electronics. For equipment that should not be cleaned directly with cleaning products, instead focus on hand hygiene before and after use.
  • How active will sanitation stations be replenished (Room 359's has been empty for a while)?
    • Sanitation stations will be checked daily by Custodial Staff. If anyone notices a need to replenish supplies, please contact Maintenance and Operations on the individual campus.
  • Regarding shared computer stations, what are the guidelines for surface cleaning; between each use, hourly, daily, etc.?  Or is hand sanitation the best approach?
    • Daily surface cleaning is recommended based upon current evidence-based studies. Hand sanitizer before and after use of shared equipment is the recommended approach.
