CLPCCD Fall 2021 Safe Work Practices Summary

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District (CLPCCD) is excited to begin this next phase of re-opening our colleges and district facilities to increased in-person instruction and support. Fall 2021 will be a transition semester so expect a gradual return to pre-COVID-19 routines. To that end, in partnership with an environmental health and safety consulting company, CLPCCD has developed this re-opening plan for the fall 2021 semester that focuses on Safe Work Practices across the district.

CLPCCD’s Fall 2021 Plan for Operations

Colleges and district facilities will re-open to employees and students under the guidelines put forth in this plan.

  • Instruction and support services will be delivered online and in-person.
  • CLPCCD is not requiring vaccines for employees or students.
  • Chabot College and Las Positas College will continue to offer COVID-19 testing and vaccinations through the Student Health Centers.
  • Face coverings will be required indoors, unless someone is alone in an office.
  • Respirators (N95 masks) are available to employees upon request.
  • Employees and students are urged to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms each day before coming to the colleges or the district office facilities. If someone is experiencing symptoms, they should stay home and contact their supervisor or instructor.
  • Employees who are unable to return to their worksite for health reasons, should contact Human Resources to discuss reasonable accommodations.

Signage

Signage reinforcing the Safe Work Practices will be placed throughout the colleges and district facilities.

Reporting Violations

Employees and students are asked to report violations and deficiencies related to the Safe Work Practices to their supervisor, instructor, or campus security.

Optimized HVAC Systems & Supplemental Filtration Options

Ventilation

  • All HVAC units have been modified to allow as much outside air intake as possible. Where feasible, windows and doors should be open while the area is occupied, unless:
    • The outside temperature is <60 F or >90F
    • The Air Quality Index is >100 (EPA Air Now)
    • Environmental factors create a greater hazard (rain, wind, snow, etc.)

Filtration

Where possible, filter upgrades from MERV 8 to MERV 13 have been made on HVAC units. Supplemental room air filters may be purchased for areas or spaces where there is no mechanical or natural ventilation available. Selection of the unit appropriate for the size and space usage should be made in collaboration with CLPCCD facilities staff.

Air Flow

Personal fans or other directional air flow devices are not permitted in communal spaces. Where applicable, use of restroom exhaust fans, fume hoods, and other mechanical exhaust systems is encouraged.

Modifications to Support Occupancy Restrictions

General Workspaces

  • There are no social distance requirements for vaccinated individuals.
  • Unvaccinated individuals must maintain a social distance of six feet.

Classrooms and Labs

  • Social distancing in classrooms and labs should be 3 to 4 feet.

Face Coverings

Face coverings or masks are required indoors at all times, unless:

  • You are alone in an enclosed office.
  • You are outdoors and six feet away from another individual.

Symptom & Exposure Reporting Required

Employees and students are urged to self-screen on a daily basis. If symptoms are present, do not come to the colleges or the district office facilities, and contact a supervisor or instructor.

Employees, students, vendors, and the public are not permitted to enter the colleges or other CLPCCD facilities if

  • they are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms and are to leave the area immediately if they develop symptoms while on campus or in any CLPCCD facility, or
  • they have been in close contact with or otherwise exposed to a known or suspected case of COVID-19 and should not come to campus or any CLPCCD facilities until they have been cleared to do so by a medical professional following current CDC guidelines.

At Risk Individuals are to self-identify to their supervisor or instructor if they are at higher risk of serious complications from COVID-19 in order to determine how workplace or classroom accommodations can be made.

Hand Sanitizer Stations

Additional hand sanitizer stations have been placed throughout the colleges and all CLPCCD facilities. All individuals are encouraged to use hand sanitizer before entering a communal space and using communal items.

  • CDC recommends handwashing with soap and water for 20 seconds and not touching your face as additional precautions.

Daily Cleaning & Disinfection of High-touch Surfaces

High-touch surfaces are cleaned and disinfected daily by CLPCCD custodial services. If an area is determined to have been impacted by a confirmed case of COVID-19, that area may be subject to additional cleaning and disinfection, as directed by the Case Response team.

Note: These practices are current as of the revision date of this plan. Since the COVID-19 pandemic remains fluid, extra diligence should be used in watching for updates to these practices.
