Rules and Enforcement
Rules/Enforcement
- Who is responsible for enforcing the mask mandate? Not all faculty feel comfortable acting as enforcers. The hope of course is that this is not necessary, but there are concerns.
- If a student comes to class without a mask and they tell me ""oh, it is okay, I am
vaccinated"", how do I verify this?
- Current regulations will still require masking inside classrooms for those vaccinated and unvaccinated, as it is a mixed grouping.
- Are we enforcing contact tracing, 6-foot social distancing, and wearing a mask in
summer or fall?
- Based upon updated Cal-OSHA guidance, 6-foot social distancing is being enforced inside buildings for all employees through July 31st. Students, based upon scientific study and CDC guidance, have been reduced to 4-foot social distancing. Mask wearing will be mandatory inside all buildings when members of the general public are present, and outside for the unvaccinated when within 6-feet of others. It is the obligation of the unvaccinated person to maintain this distance for their own safety. Contact tracing will be enforced when a symptomatic case is reported or when a known case is identified within the workplace in accordance with Alameda County Guidelines. The District is currently reviewing the symptom screening process for all employees and students based upon the updated Cal-OSHA guidelines (June 4, 2021).
- If a student emails me saying that he/she is feeling sick with cold-like symptoms,
and they come to class, can I have the student removed? Also, if they stay home, can
I ask for proof that they are COVID-19 negative?
- All employees or students who are symptomatic should return home and see their care providers. Invite the person to go outside with you, when outside and distanced, kindly explain school policy to remain off-campus except if visiting the health center if they have symptoms, and let them know of testing availability at the student health center.
- What can we do in a classroom if a student refuses to wear a face covering, or refuses
to wear it properly, or instead of a face covering, they wear a bandana?
- Offer a 3-ply paper mask, explaining it is the minimum standard for on-campus face covering. If de-escalation and offering adequate covering is not effective, contact campus safety.
- If my student reports having a headache or runny nose, should I tell them not to come
to class? Covid symptoms are so broad I was not sure this semester when to tell a
student not to come to class.
- Yes, ask them to stay at home if having NEW or UNUSUAL symptoms. For example, if a student has frequent headaches or allergy symptoms, they should use their usual medications and can come to campus if their symptoms are controlled. If their symptoms are NEW or UNUSUAL, they should remain at home and contact their healthcare provider.
- Does our protocol require a student reporting COVID-like symptoms to be tested for
COVID? If so, but a student reports COVID-like symptoms and does not cooperate with
our protocol, can they be barred from returning to the classroom?
- Students should be referred to a personal healthcare provider if showing symptoms that are consistent with COVID-19. They may be excluded from in-person instruction for 10 days, or until symptoms improve in accordance with County Public Health Guidelines.
- Can I send/embed a student tutor into an in-person class in the fall to support small-group
instruction? If yes, what safety precautions must the student tutor take in the event
that they will be less than 4 feet distanced from another student?
- Student tutors may work in a classroom or tutoring center within 4 feet of other students. They should be provided a higher quality face covering (N-95 or KN-95) for voluntary use and maintain a close contact log for each engagement they have. If the student is vaccinated they will not be required to quarantine following a known exposure.
